Professor assistant in biochemistry 1968–77
Professor in biochemistry 1978–2001
My research focused initially on the mechanisms of catalysis for individual enzymes (e.g. alcohol dehydrogenase and copper-containing amine oxidases), with reaction kinetics as a methodological speciality. Eventually my research shifted towards studies of the interplay of enzymes in metabolic networks such as the glycolytic pathway and the Calcin cycle for photosynthetic carbon dioxide fixation.
Due to my expertise in enzyme kinetics and mathematical modelling, I have been frequently engaged as a scientific reviewer by various biochemical journals. During the 1970s and 1980s, I was on the Advisory Board of the Biochemical Journal and the European Journal of Biochemistry. 1989–1999 I was an Editor of the European Journal of Biochemistry.
